Exodus 1-3

God Shot: Fear Not

There are so many different directions to go in my God shot today. The first one that comes to mind is “never trust Hollywood to teach you the Bible” because I did not hear anything about Charleston Heston and Yule Brenner being friends here. All joking aside, there are a lot of things that Hollywood takes license on so always read the Bible before changing your theology after a movie (Noah was so bad).

Second directions I could go is “In His Time”. God took almost 400 years to fulfill a prophecy. I get frustrated when I don’t get an answer to a prayer in the first day. I get mad when I have not heard anything in a week. And I get downright discouraged when it is anything longer than 8 days.

Another is, “Don’t allow yourself to believe that you are irreplaceable” Think about it, Joseph was in command of so much stuff when he was alive. But just two generations after he dies the Pharoah does not remember to treat his family well. As a matter of fact, this is a great Segway into my actual God Shot for the day.

There are a few others that have come to mind but the one that I want to really talk about is a continuation of thought about the Israelites actually being in Egypt.  They were invited into Egypt by a ruler of the land. He worked directly for Pharaoh and the Israelites were his family. That’s Right, Joseph. With the pharaoh ‘s blessing the Israelites were in the land of Egypt.  But then they became so large and the new Pharaoh allowed his dislike for Israelites to drive this fear of loss of power. He began to enslave the Israelites instead of work with them just because he was afraid they could take over Egypt. He allowed his fear of something that had not happened change the way he treated people just because of their nationality. That was it. I am going to make you slaves and kill your kids so that you don’t try to take my seat.

I look at that and see so many things about society today. Think about other stories where a prophecy came true. (And I am talking about fictional stories here) They usually came true because the bad guy was trying to stop it before it happened. They literally forced the prophecy to become true. Forgive the reference but think of the Harry Potter series. If Voldemort had not tried to kill Harry when he was a kid he would never have given Harry the power to destroy him later. If he had just left the kid and his family alone would he have actually destroyed Voldemort? I know that is a stretch for a Bible study but look at other prophecies in the Bible that made the bad guy create the space for the prophecy to become true... something about a ruler having all the male babies killed to try and get to the ONE that was going to become King of Kings. Thus fulfilling a ton of Old Testament prophecies in turn... God is so cool.

Anyway, here is what I got the most out of today. God has a plan. Instead of fighting the plan, why don’t we just let God work and not let our fear take control of our lives and then God’s plan still works but now we have been afraid all of our lives?  Fear never works, it only destroys. Fear never works, it only destroys. Fear never works, it only destroys. I keep saying it for my benefit, because I let fear drive most of my decisions. That is the reason that it is what I got the most out of today. It is just one more place where God is showing me that being afraid never changes God’s outcome. So why should I live in fear of what’s next when he has already guided my steps. Instead of walking that path trembling, I can walk it hand in hand with the man that laid the path.

Side note… Moses was born to a Levite… the Levites became the Priestly Tribe of Israel.
