The Bible Recap Day 30

The Bible Recap Day 30 Exodus 1-3 God Shot: Fear Not There are so many different directions to go in my God shot today. The first one that comes to mind is “never trust Hollywood to teach you the Bible” because I did not hear anything about Charleston Heston and Yule Brenner being friends here. All joking aside, there are a lot of things that Hollywood takes license on so always read the Bible before changing your theology after a movie (Noah was so bad). Second directions I could go is “In His Time”. God took almost 400 years to fulfill a prophecy. I get frustrated when I don’t get an answer to a prayer in the first day. I get mad when I have not heard anything in a week. And I get downright discouraged when it is anything longer than 8 days. Another is, “Don’t allow yourself to believe that you are irreplaceable” Think about it, Joseph was in command of so much stuff when he was alive. But just two generations after he dies the Pharoah does not remember to treat hi...

The Bible Recap Day 29

The Bible Recap Day 29 Genesis 48-50 God Shot: Forgiveness There are many different ways of defining forgiveness and what comes next but for the sake of brevity, for this recap, we will define forgiveness with this one requirement ““Like God, to forgive someone means to no longer hold sin against the person who has sinned against you.” Think of a bank loan and then one day the bank calls and says “ok, your debt has been cleared”. That is the way I see forgiveness. (Side note, it took me almost 30 minutes to write this paragraph because I started down a LONG research rabbit hole trying to define forgiveness, this could be an interesting study) Over the last few days “forgiveness” has been put in front of me repeatedly. It has come in the forms of music, sermons, conversations, and now my Bible study itself. I would like to believe that I am a forgiving person. I once heard it said that “Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die to die”....

The Bible Recap Day 28

The Bible Recap Day 28 Genesis 46-47 God Shot: Look to God for deliverance  My God Shot is different than that of the book. But there is a reason. Several years ago I was chasing a rabbit through the Bible trying to find out how Pharaoh got all the Israelites to be his slaves. Chasing that rabbit I found out that it happened because Jacob and his family came into the land of Egypt, invited by his son Joseph, and welcomed by Pharaoh. He was given his land to raise his livestock and all seemed to be well. I am sure that we will see the decline later on but HOW did Pharaoh get all the that many slaves to man his fields? There is some artistic license here, and I am writing this down as my God shot so that I remember what I was thinking so don’t hold me to this as fact and yes there is a God shot in here. At the end of chapter 47 we see that the Egyptians were starving so they sold all their stuff to Joseph, ie Pharaoh’s court, to eat. Then the next year they had to sell the...

The Bible Recap Day 27

The Bible Recap Day 27 Genesis 43-45 God Shot: Why do bad things happen to good people Genesis 45:4-8 [4] So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. [5] And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. [6] For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. [7] And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. [8] So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. A little over a year ago I was with a soldier who was dealing with a death. He asked the question that I have been asked many times, it is the question that I have asked just as many times on my own; “Why ...
